Welcome to the Governors' section!

Mr Robert Allen B. Ed Hons

I have been a governor of St Mary’s School since I took up my appointment as Head Teacher in April 2002. During my twenty three years experience of being a Head Teacher, I have been a governor in both Voluntary Aided and Community schools.
I am happy and privileged to be part of the governance of St Mary’s School as we further and develop its life and work.

Revd Philip Davison

I have been a governor at St Mary's since September 2008 when I became Rector of St Mary-at-Finchley and ex officio Foundation Governor. Both my children attend St Mary's so I also have an interest as a parent. Before I moved to Finchley I had been Priest in Charge of a church in Blackburn and I was for a number of years Vice Chair of Governors for the local Community Primary School.

Miss Jane Harman BA

I have been a governor of St Mary’s School since January 2008.
I am a Key Stage 2 teacher and have worked at St Mary’s since 2006. I represent the teachers on the Governing Body.

Sally Atkinson

I represent the Central Barnet Deanery Synod, the wider Anglican community in the area, and I belong to All Saints’ Church in East Finchley.  I have lived in Church End for 34 years, and both my children attended St Mary’s School before going on to local secondary schools. I work full time as a social worker for a charity.

Mrs Leanne Chase-Rahman BSc ACA

I have been a Parent Governor of St Mary’s School since June 2008. I have 3 children in the school spanning nursery, infants and juniors. I am a chartered accountant and I value the opportunity to use my professional skills as part of our school's governing body, particularly on the sub-committees for Standards and Learning and for Finance. I find it rewarding to be a part of such dedicated teams who work so hard for our school.

Mrs. Polly Harman BA

I belong to the church of St. Mary-at-Finchley, and was appointed a foundation governor of St. Mary’s Primary School by the London Diocesan Board for Schools early in 2005. Having taught in the nursery department of St Mary’s CE Infant School in Hornsey for several years until my retirement in 2003, I am particularly interested in the early years setting of the Foundation Stage.

Mr Nigel Wildish JP, BA

I was appointed a governor by the Local Authority in January 2009. As a Reader at St Mary-at-Finchley, I am committed to the provision of high quality education in Finchley within a Christian ethos. As both a husband and father of careers teachers in primary and secondary schools, I am familiar with the current education environment.
As a retired solicitor and a current magistrate within the London Borough of Barnet, I want to help St Mary's thrive within the current legal, regulatory and best practice environment.

Mrs Jenny Crane BSc

I have been a governor of St Mary’s School twice; the first was when my 3 children were in the school and now since 2001.
I am the Foundation Governor from St Paul’s Church and am a teacher with experience in both the state sector at Copthall School, and now the private sector at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls. Both schools have benefited from pupils from St Mary’s.
I am very grateful to St Mary’s School for the quality of education they gave my children and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the education of the present pupils.

Mrs Niki Bettis

I have four children attending St Mary’s School and became an elected parent Governor in July 2008. With 15 years experience in the Banking sector I am very much looking forward to utilising my professional skills on the governing body. Specifically on the staffing, premises and publications committees.

Mrs Gill Lyall

My three sons attended St. Mary’s School, and now my 3 grandchildren are there. I was a governor myself for 6 years. I have recently retired, having spent all my working years in schools, the last of which was as Bursar in a residential school for primary age children with profound disabilities and visual impairment. I appreciate being able to maintain a link with St. Mary’s in my role of Clerk to the Governors.

Mrs Dora Brown

Specialist Teaching Assistant
I have been a Governor at St Mary’s School for the past five years, representing the non-teaching staff.
I joined St Mary’s as a voluntary parent helper in the reception class, whilst my two children were at the school. I did this for three years prior to becoming a Teaching Assistant which I have been for the past nine years. I am currently based in Year One where I support both classes

Mr Stuart Slater

MA Philosophy (Cantab), Masters in Finance (London Business School).
I currently work for The Bank of New York Mellon in the fund of hedge funds investment team. My previous roles have included quant equity portfolio management, structured products and derivatives.
I have two children, the eldest in reception at St Mary's.

Mr Nicholas Upton MA

I have been a governor of St Mary’s School since November 2002
I am the foundation governor appointed by St Mary’s Church Parochial Church Council.
My main area of expertise is IT. I am currently joint Vice Chair of the Governors, and Chair of the Finance Committee.
For many years I was governor (and Clerk to the Governors) at Christ Church JMI School in Barnet. Working abroad meant stepping down from Christ Church, and I was pleased when the opportunity arose to be a governor again, and to contribute to the success of the community of St Mary’s School.

Revd Nicholas Pye BA MA PGCE CTM

Vicar of St Paul’s Finchley, one of the school’s two sponsoring Anglican parishes, I have been an ex-officio Foundation Governor since 2003. Prior to ordination I was a teacher for eight years, four years of which were as a member of a school’s Senior Leadership Team. As both a Governor and parent, I have a particular interest in developing the school’s Christian ethos and commending the added value of education in a church school.

Helen Foster BA Hons

I am a Foundation Parent Governor, having previously been your elected Parent Governor. I have been on the Governing Body for 3.5 years and am currently Chair. I have 3 children at the school and am a full time mum. Prior to that I was a Project Manager. I am passionate about improving standards and learning for all children at our school and am proud of the range of opportunities and activities that St Mary’s offers our children.

Mrs Sandy Barker MSc(Ec)

I have been a governor of St Mary’s since the early 1990s. I am one of the local authority nominees and am also a co-opted governor at Oak Lodge Special School in East Finchley. Post three children, I have worked as a Learning Support Assistant at local secondary schools. My children attended local schools: a C of E primary school and comprehensive secondary schools.
I have a long term interest in issues of children’s welfare, special needs, literacy interventions, and the use of statistics in formulating and monitoring policy.
