Thank you everyone for making such an effort to dress up. Your hair looked fab! We collected lots of money for charity and had lots of fun. See below for photos.
The children in 1R loved dressing up as their favourite book characters on World Book Day. They all had a really good time!
Everyone at St Mary's has been taking part and enjoying Book Week this week, and the children in Year 1 had a very special opportunity to do some paired reading with the older children in Year 5. This was a wonderful chance for the children in both year groups to read and listen to each other while reading some of their favourite books.
This term we have been finding out how we can make parts of a picture move. We've learnt how to use a slider, lever and wheel mechanism. This week we are going to design a page for a book which has a moving part.
We are lucky enough to have one of the mums in 1L who is a shoe designer. On Wednesday, she came in to talk to the class about how she designs a shoe. She showed us her sketches or designs she had made for shoes and we got to look at lots of samples, including the actual shoes she had designed.
Thank you, mum! There are lots of us now thinking we might like to become shoe designers!
Question: can anyone remember the mystery material in a shoe? And why it is needed?
The children in 1L are sitting on the carpet. They are learning lots of fun things.
On Friday 13th January 2017 the class wore something green for Switch Off Day. We raised £24 in 1L which will go to WaterAid, a charity which works to provide clean water in countries where they don't have access to clean water. Didn't we look great! During the morning we found out why we have a Switch Off Day each year. The children remembered to turn off the lights in the classroom when we didn't need them on and even reminded Miss Wilson to switch off the interactive whiteboard when it wasn't being used. Well done everyone!
Year 1 have got brand new carpets in their classrooms. Our wonderful PTA bought them for the children to replace their old carpets. Now all the children can sit comfortably on them with plenty of space. The children would like to say a massive THANK YOU to our PTA. They really like their new carpets!
WOW! Weren't they great........ just in case you missed it, here are a few photos of your little stars. Merry Christmas.
We made firework paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock!
The children have been learning about the parts of the body. Here you can see them learning the names of the different parts, and then they placed them on a large diagram of a body. It was really interesting work and the children all had a great time working together.
Using Numicon in our mathematics lessons is a really fun way to learn. The children really enjoy using it, and it helps them to develop their counting skills, and also to learn and understand about number bonds. Look at the photos!
The children have been learning how to program in their Computing lessons. They have been using Espresso Coding and having lots of fun. The children really enjoy using the laptop computers in the atrium.
What is my community? How can I serve it? How can I serve others?
Raising money for the toilet twinning project we dress up as different members of our community and bring in £1. We raised £47 in 1L!
Here are the children in 1L painting their wonderful Self Portraits. As you can see, they all worked really hard to carefully recreate themselves on paper.
We get to do Art in 1L. Here we are week 3 selecting our own colours, pouring our own paint and exploring colour mixing. Look at how carefully we are working!
Next week we will be painting self portraits. Parents/Carers will be able to see our work proudly hung on the walls of our classroom when you come to our upcoming Parent Open Evening this term.
Look how busy we are..... reading books in the book corner, junk modelling on the patio, measuring with the water and writing in our new writing books.
