Safeguarding at St Mary's

Making sure everyone in our school community is safe is very important at St Mary’s. All staff in the school, by law, have a duty to report any concerns that they might have regarding any child in our community. It is a Department of Education requirement that each school nominates a member of staff responsible for Safeguarding. This is St Mary’s Safeguarding Team for the academic year 2016/17:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mr Roos, Head Teacher

  • Safeguarding Deputies

Mrs Hinson, Deputy Head Teacher

Mrs Johnston, SENCo

Mrs Malyali

They are always happy to discuss any concerns you might have regarding Safeguarding in St Mary’s.

In addition, Claire Turner is our Safeguarding Governor.

Whilst the school will always try to work in partnership with parents and careers and keep them fully informed of any action concerning their child, the welfare of the child is always our most important consideration. It is our legal duty to report any child protection concerns to the relevant agencies. We will always act in a way which will ensure the child is kept safe. There is a link to our Safeguarding policy at the end of this page.

We take the appointment of all new staff seriously and we follow ‘Safer Recruitment’ best practice guidelines. All our staff and volunteers are DBS checked.

Using the internet, mobile phones and social media are all parts of our society today. Children at St Mary’s use the internet regularly as part of their learning. We believe in educating children to be safe online and to be responsible users of the internet.
