PE Grant

At St Mary’s Primary School, we recognise the significant contribution of PE to the health and well-being of all children. In addition, we believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.

WHAT IS THE SPORTS PREMIUM?

The government is providing funding worth £150 million per year and is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department of Health and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Prime Minister David Cameron announced in February 2014 that the Government have committed to funding for the Primary PE and Sport Premium to 2020.  This money is going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.  At St Mary’s that will mean approximately £16,000 a year plus £10 per pupil.

How is the money already helping at St Mary’s and the impact it has had fro our children;

  • The delivery of PE by a specialist sports teacher has raised outcomes in PE overall and high proportions of children have met or exceeded the Age Related Expectations in PE.
  • The school also spent a proportion of the grant to improve resourcing of Sports/PE year on year. This includes schemes of work and equipment allowing children to receive the best quality lessons available.
  • CPD and career development for PE teacher and teachers, helping to ensure the retention of our good provision. Specialist sports teachers have enhanced the delivery of dance and gymnastics, further improving pupil outcomes.
  • Improved assessment and reporting arrangements about children’s attainment and progress in PE due to CPD and subject leader communication via the BPSS which is paid for using the PE grant.
  • St Mary’s has also received the Sainsbury’s GOLD SPORTS AWARD, which is awarded based on participation levels of children accessing extra-curricular activities and tournaments run by Barnet Partnership of School Sport.

Please see attached PE Grant and expenditure reports for more information.

Any extra Primary School Sport’s Funding will be used to enable us to continue to develop our PE provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.
