Physical Education

 

Physical Education and activities are an integral part of the holistic development of children. Some of the benefits of being active include:

  • Improving balance, coordination and strength
  • Maintaining and developing flexibility

  • Promoting relaxation
  • Developing social skills

 

P.E. at St. Mary’s uses lots of different Sports and activities to implement these benefits including Swimming, Dance, invasion games, gymnastics and Athletics.

 

Children are timetabled for two sessions of P.E. a week and as well as using P.E for Holistic benefits, St Mary’s pupils develop and enhance a range of skills and attributes for individual sports and activities furthering their knowledge, techniques and positive attitudes.

 

Tournaments are regularly attended for a range of sports/activities where the children have a chance to showcase their skills and knowledge in a competitive and friendly environment.

 

Extra-curricula options available include netball, football, Table tennis, multi sports and dance.

 

The Year 5 & 6 School Journeys also fulfil the stipulated outdoor and adventurous aspects required by the National Curriculum.
